Miller, 26, was pronounced dead at 11:51 at his Studio City, California, home, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE. A cause of death is yet to be determined, but a source tells PEOPLE the rapper had gone into cardiac arrest after appearing to suffer a drug overdose. Grande and Miller, who struggled with drugs throughout his life, dated for two years before separating in May. The split came as a shock to fans as Miller raved about the singer on Twitter in April after she released her single “No Tears Left to Cry.” “I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us!” the singer wrote. Grande’s fans came to her defense on Twitter writing it wasn’t the singer’s fault Miller had died. “Just noticed Ariana Grande disabled comments on her Instagram account after a barrage of Mac Miller-related comments,” one user tweeted. “Recognize the true problem here, rather than using someone else as a scapegoat & continuing the cycle. All so sad & nauseating.” Another shared the same sentiment, tweeting, “The amount of tweets blaming Ariana Grande for what happened to Mac Miller is disgusting, his addiction and lack of help is what drove this to happen, don’t point the finger and blame.” A different fan wrote, “Ariana Grande is not responsible for Mac Miller’s death. Stop hating her. She’s a person like you who also has feelings. I’m sure she’s having a hard time. I wish patience to her and his family.” Early that morning, the rapper was arrested for DUI and hit and run after he struck a power pole in the San Fernando Valley with his Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon and fled the scene; after law enforcement officers matched the vehicle’s license plates to Miller’s address, they arrested him at his home, a Los Angeles Police Department public information officer previously told PEOPLE. Following his arrest, a fan blamed Miller’s crash on Grande tweeted the rapper had “dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine” and called the album “the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood.” Grande responded directly, tweeting, “how absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn’t the case (just Cinderella is ab me).” Her Twitter statement continued: “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming / blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s— together is a very major problem.” The rapper went on to open up about his arrest during a conversation with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Apple Music in July. “I made a stupid mistake. I’m a human being,” Miller explained. “But it was the best thing that could have happened. Best thing that could have happened. I needed that. I needed to run into that light pole and literally have the whole thing stop.” However, Miller went on to let all of his fans know that they shouldn’t worry about him, because he was doing fine. 2016 MTV Video Music Awards - Backstage & Audience Mac Miller and Ariana Grande | Credit: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic “I have people that care about me and fans that love my music and it’s a beautiful relationship with them — people who have been with me through being a 19-year-old wide-eyed kid to being a self-destructive depressed drug user to making love music to all these different stages. Then they see something like that and they worry,” he explained. “So your first reaction is, ‘Let me tell them I’m cool.’ ” During the interview, Miller also explained that both he and Grande had moved on since their split — and that he wished her well. “I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple,” he said. “It’s all positive energy,” he added. “I am happy for her and [the fact that she’s] moving forward with her life, just as I’m sure she is with me.”

As for Ariana Grande, the 30-year-old singer was uncharacteristically quiet about her relationship with Dalton Gomez once the pair wed in May 2022. After a string of high-profile romances with a myriad of public figures, many fans were surprised when Grande, who had previously been very publicly engaged to serial celebrity dater, Pete Davidson

Ariana Grande does not have time for rude comments about her recent split from rapper Mac Miller. The "No Tears Left to Cry" singer had a truly epic response when a guy on Twitter called her out and placed blame on Ariana for Mac Miller's recent DUI arrest, implying that she should feel guilty. "Mac Miller totaling his G wagon and getting a DUI after Ariana Grande dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten-song album to her called the divine feminine is just the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood," he wrote. — Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) May 23, 2018 From the looks of it, Ariana definitely reads her mentions and wasn't going to let this one slide. "How absurd that you minimize female self-respect self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them," she began, clarifying that the album isn't even about her. "I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be." She also said that her complicated relationship with the rapper is her own business and that she "cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years." Ariana and Mac Miller dated for almost two years before calling it quits earlier this month. At the time of their breakup, the singer released a statement on Instagram, calling Mac her "best friend." They are opposite signs, but compatible regardless. 14 Four Songs About Him Any song Ariana makes is integrated into her personal life. She pours her heart into the songs even if they are not necessarily perfect. There are four songs that possibly and/or definitely reference Mac. They are "Imagine," "Better Off," "Everytime," and "thank u, next." The last one clearly mentions him despite not being the entire main focus, while the other three are up for debate, but are probable for being able Mac. 13 The "Cinderella" In His Song It is very common for artists to reference others in their songs depending on the relationship. He told Rolling Stone that he secluded himself and admitted that during the time, he heard the song "Despacito" for the first time as well. 9 What Happened After The Breakup The breakup was definitely a tough obstacle for Mac. Even though it would resolve slowly and surely, days after the breakup, he got arrested for a DUI and hit and run charges. He admitted to fleeing from the scene when police arrived at his house. 8 Remained Great Friends A breakup can test two people who really loved each other. After all, they've known each other since 2012 so it was reliving that their friendship wasn't affected. 7 There For Her At Her Lowest When a tragic event happens while being associated with it affected Ariana greatly. While they have known each other since 2012, Ariana and Mac did not become official until 2016. And then around May 2018, they split up. With a lot happening to Mac, it was too much for Ariana to stay with him. 2 A Scary Silence After Mac's passing, many of his friends, family, and fellow artists mourned greatly. Ariana definitely took it hard, but she was pretty quiet about it after posting on Instagram. She made tons of tributes to him and honored his memory in the best ability possible. After breaking off her engagement with Pete and writing "thank u, next," she thanked her exes. This includes Mac while claiming he was an angel.

Ariana Grande Chokes Up During Mac Miller Hometown TributeAriana Grande was devastated by how it all ended with Mac Miller. She had broken up with the Swimming artist months beforehand after their relationship had turned toxic, her desire to be a rock for him in his ongoing battle with substance abuse not able to conquer all. She understandably couldn't bear to watch him go down that destructive road. "Unconditional love is not selfish. It is wanting the best for that person even if at the moment, it's not you," Grande wrote in May 2018, her first public comment regarding their breakup. "I can't wait to know and support you forever and I'm so proud of you!!" Instead, Miller was found dead of an accidental overdose Sept. 7, 2018, at the age of 26, leaving Grande to only be able to wish for a chance to tell him in person what he meant to her—as she expressed on her smash-hit "thank u next" and has never stopped expressing, even as she has moved on in her personal life, recently announcing her engagement to Dalton Gomez."It's pretty all-consuming," she told Vogue in the summer of 2019, referring to the grief she was still processing. "By no means was what we had perfect, but, like, f--k. He was the best person ever, and he didn't deserve the demons he had. I was the glue for such a long time, and I found myself becoming...less and less sticky. The pieces just started to float away." What hasn't floated away is her appreciation for everything she got from her time with Miller, who was born Malcolm McCormick and would have turned 29 today, and what she's learned about herself since. In June 2019, Grande got choked up during a show in his hometown of Pittsburgh when she got to the "wish I could say thank you to Malcolm, 'cause he was an angel" part of "thank u next," Miller's music having also been playing when concertgoers filed into the arena earlier in the the 2020 Grammys, where she performed an emotional medley of John Lennon's "Imagine" along with her "7 rings" and "thank u next," she shared several videos to her Instagram Story of her kicking back after her big night. In two of them, the Florida native was wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers shirt, an open nod to Miller's beloved hometown team. As recently as October, fans caught what certainly felt like a Miller reference in the sound of crickets chirping in the background of "Just like Magic" and on the title track of her sixth studio album, positions. A previously unreleased track from Miller called "Crickets" had dropped earlier in the / Splash NewsBut her heavenly musical references to the late rapper began with the album thank u next, part of a burst of studio productivity from Grande in the latter half of 2018, during which she was mourning Miller, picking up the pieces following her broken engagement with Peter Davidson and recapturing her sense of self—a journey she has mainly addressed through song. "Me and Mac were really close. He was one of my best friends," singer-songwriter Njomza Vitia, who co-wrote "7 Rings," told NPR in February 2019. "So [Ariana and I] were just around each other all the time because of him...So after Mac passed, she was really hurt. I was really hurt. And I think it kind of brought us together a little bit closer because of what we were going through. We could understand each other. She surrounded herself with people who could understand." She continued, "The songs were written really, really fast. From [September to October], it was almost like a song a day...Ideas were just getting shouted out and people were just like adding on with other stuff. It's really cool. It was a lot of really amazing, boss, female energy."Grande told Vogue, "I'm a person who's been through a lot and doesn't know what to say about any of it to myself, let alone the world. I see myself onstage as this perfectly polished, great-at-my-job entertainer, and then in situations like this I'm just this little basket-case puddle of figuring it out...I have to be the luckiest girl in the world, and the unluckiest, for sure." She explained, "I'm walking this fine line between healing myself and not letting the things that I've gone through be picked at before I'm ready, and also celebrating the beautiful things that have happened in my life and not feeling scared that they'll be taken away from me because trauma tells me that they will be, you know what I mean?" Retreating to the studio after suffering a loss has always been her way of dealing. "My friends know how much solace music brings me, so I think it was an all-around, let's-get-her-there type situation," Grande told the was what brought her and Miller together in the first place, the pair collaborating on a remix of her song "The Way" together in 2013. Their effortless chemistry in the video translated into real life, though they didn't actually start dating for a couple of years. She subsequently joined Miller on the song (and appeared in the video for) "My Favorite Part," off of his 2016 album The Divine Feminine, featuring him singing, "I know you far too smart / Before things come together, they have to fall apart / It's been a while since I've been sober / This life can be so hard... I'd rather talk about you." "We have loved and adored and respected each other since the beginning, since before we even met, just because we were fans of each other's talent," Grande told Cosmopolitan in 2017. We weren't ready at all, though, to be together. It's just timing. We both needed to experience some things, but the love has been there the whole time."InstagramAfter Miller died, she wrote in tribute, "i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can't believe you aren't here anymore. i really can't wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i'm so mad, i'm so sad i don't know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i'm so sorry i couldn't fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you're okay now. rest." She was still engaged to Davidson at the time after a whirlwind courtship that had him ring shopping weeks after their first date, but she broke it off about six weeks after Miller died. A source told E! News at the time that she was "truly hurting from the death of Mac and feels very overwhelmed with her life right now...She's been battling her feelings and knows that she needs to take time for herself."On his podcast The Shane Show after his friend's death, Shane Powers acknowledged how much Grande—who was unfairly accused by merciless online critics of dropping Miller in his time of need when they broke up and he was arrested weeks later for leaving the scene of a suspected DUI crash—tried to help him. "Ariana and him were together and they were very much in love," Power recalled. "And I have to say, she was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was a f--king G to him. There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. I saw that, I was around it. I took phone calls from her, 'How do I help? What do I do?' This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy. Because whether he's an addict or not, the way that Mac partied was not healthy." But theirs was a relationship that changed both their lives, despite Grande being the only one left to unpack what they had and what it meant. Miller told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in an interview a few weeks before his critically acclaimed Swimming came out Aug. 3, 2018, "I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress, and everything else. And then it came to an end, and we both moved on. And it's that simple, you know?" At the time she was with someone new, and that was "strange," he admitted, but "I am happy for her and moving forward with her life, just as I'm sure she is with me." Grande has been able to move forward, but she has also made sure to honor her time with Miller and his legacy as an artist."Nothing mattered more to him than music ever," she told Lowe last May on Beats 1, sitting down for an Apple Music special (from home, due to the pandemic) during which she had the team spin Miller's "What's the Use?" and "Blue World." "He was the kind of person who woke up and rolled into the studio, like tumbled out of bed into the studio next door. Nothing was more important," Grande said. "Talk about losing track of time and forgetting to eat, remind yourself to take care of yourself and be a person. He was a person who gave literally every single second of his thoughts and time and life to music. And I think that is so evident in what he has left us with and just how many incredible and different bodies of work, everything from Blue Slide Park, to all the way through Divine Feminine, to Swimming, to Circles, to everything in between. "It's just such a beautiful gift that he kind of touched the world with, and I think the thing he'd want most is for us to just appreciate it and not forget about it." Things between Grande and Pete Davidson seemingly progressed faster following their respective splits from Miller and Cazzie David. Davidson confirmed their relationship on Instagram in May 2018, sharing a photo of the couple posing in Harry Potter outfits, which he captioned, “The chamber of secrets has been opened.” Ariana Grande has broken her silence on Mac Miller. The 25-year-old singer spoke out on Miller's death on Friday, a week after he was found dead on Friday inside his San Fernando Valley home, ET confirmed. According to TMZ, he died of an apparent overdose. Grande, who disabled comments on her Instagram last Friday -- after fans blamed her for Miller's death -- remembered Miller as her "dearest friend." "I adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will," she wrote. "I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do." "You were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to," Grande continued. "The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest."The former Nickelodeon star posted a sweet black-and-white photo of her ex-boyfriend to her Instagram on Saturday. Miller and Grande split after nearly two years of dating in early May. The singer addressed their breakup on Instagram, calling Miller "one of my best friends in the whole world." "I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us," she wrote. Soon after, the rapper was arrested and later charged with two counts of driving under the influence in August following a May DUI arrest in Los Angeles, California. At the time, Grande, who moved on romantically with Pete Davidson, responded to a Twitter user who accused of her of being the reason behind the incident. "I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his sh** together is a very major problem," she said, calling her relationship with Miller "toxic." "Let's please stop doing that," she added. "Of course I didn't share how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was. I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well."A source told ET following Miller's death that Grande was "devastated." “Although the two ended their relationship, Ariana always shared a deep connection with Mac and wanted nothing but the best for him," the source said. "Ariana is very upset." See more in the video below. However, in a September 2016 interview with People, Mac said the song had been written beforehand and that working on it together is what led to their close friendship being rekindled. Additionally, after the two split up in May 2018, Ariana revealed that the only song written about her on The Divine Feminine is “Cinderella.”Ask us a question about this songWhat has Mac said about the song? [Ariana and I] hadn’t spoken in a while, ‘cause we’ve been friends forever … I hit her up like, “Yo, I have this song for you.” I was lying, I didn’t have a song yet, but … I knew I wanted her to be apart of this album. … I write this crazy story in my head all the time like, “What’s the next song that we get on together?” There’s even a playlist in my laptop that’s all these beat titles like, “She would sound good on this one,” or “I like this, but it’s not it.” I’m going through, and then the simplest canvas was the one to paint on, you know? I wrote the hook. I stayed up the whole entire night deciding if I wanted to sing or rap. … I don’t even fucking remember what the line is at this point, but I wrote some clever line that I was married to. Finally, I’m like, “I’ll go to sleep. Fuck it.” First thing I do when I wake up is sing that verse, and I sent it to [Ariana] and we set up a studio session. … Watching her write that and sing that was really awesome for me, because I remember us making songs when we were young, and seeing her just command it and be like, “I'ma do this, this, this, this,” and I’m like, “Hell yeah.” You even hear me in the background of the record—she hits this note and you hear the talkback mic of me being like, “Yeah!” I was really into it. via Audience NetworkWere Mac Miller and Ariana Grande dating?Rumors circulated about Mac and Ariana’s dating relationship ever since their duet on “The Way” in 2013. He had worked professionally with Ariana Grande multiple times, most notably as a featured artist on "The Way". Grande and Miller had been close friends for years and began dating in August 2016, before breaking up in May 2018. He died from an accidental drug overdose on September 7, 2018.[2] Relationship with Ariana 2012-2015 Ariana and Mac met in the second half of 2012 when she was 19. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Ariana said they were fans of each other's music and talent before they met. They become good friends and recorded a cover of "Baby It's Cold Outside" in December 2012 which Ariana posted on her YouTube channel. The following year in March, Ariana released her debut single titled "The Way". Mac was featured in the song and rapped one verse. In an interview, Ariana detailed that they baked cookies while they recorded the song.[3] Ariana said she wanted Mac to be on the song as soon as she heard it. At the end of the music video for the song, Mac and Ariana kiss. This caused a lot of speculation about a romantic relationship between the two. Even more, rumors circulated when Ariana and her boyfriend Jai broke up briefly after the song was released. Ariana denied all of this saying that the kiss was directed and that she and Mac were just friends. In April 2013, Mac said of Ariana, "Well [Ariana is] a very, very talented singer like she can sing incredibly. And, that's awesome and she's a great person. She's one of the nicest just people I've ever met in my life."[4] On September 2013, Ariana said in an interview with Hot 97 that Mac is one of her "best friends in the world, like in the whole world".[5] Throughout 2013, Mac would appear sometimes during Ariana's live performances for "The Way". During the next two years, Ariana and Mac did not collaborate and were not seen out together very often. It is assumed they still kept in touch. 2016-2018 On July 15, 2016, (a few days after her breakup with Ricky Alvarez) Grande went to Disneyland with Miller and Victoria Monét.[6] In the same week, they went out with some more friends to play Pokemon Go.[7] In early August, a remix of "Into You" was released with an added verse by Mac Miller.[8] Mac performed "The Way" with Grande again at the Hot 100 Music Festival on August 20.[9] On August 21, 2016, Grande and Miller were spotted kissing after going to a sushi restaurant.[10] This was the first confirmation of a romantic relationship. Grande and Miller were seen walking out of a tattoo parlor together on August 26. Grande is featured on the third single off The Divine Feminine, "My Favorite Part". Grande also recorded an intro for the album on the first track, "Congratulations" featuring Bilal. Miller and Grande at Coachella in 2017 Sometime in 2016, Grande filmed a music video for "Dang" by Mac Miller, but it was never released and only a short snippet of the two in the video was leaked. During a Q&A, Grande confessed that she recorded a new song with Mac Miller. On April 1, 2017, Mac Miller joined Grande onstage at Dangerous Woman Tour and they performed "The Way". Later in April, Grande and Miller went to Coachella together. Miller offered to cancel the rest of his tour so that he could spend time with Grande after the Manchester attack, and performed at her benefit concert One Love Manchester. Break Up On May 10, 2018, Grande confirmed that she and Miller had broken up, although they remained best friends.[11] Grande responded to a fan that her relationship with Miller was "toxic", "hard" and "scary" on May 23, 2018.[12] Death On September 7, 2018, Miller died from an accidental drug overdose at his San Fernando Valley home.[2] The coroner's report concluded that his cause of death was "mixed drug toxicity" of fentanyl, alcohol, and cocaine.[13] his personal assistant found him face down in his Hollywood hills rental home. A day later, Grande broke her silence by sharing a photo of Miller on her Instagram with no caption.[14][15] She later posted a video of Miller with the following caption: "i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest."[16] Collaborations "The Way" - Yours Truly (2013) "Into You (Mac Miller Remix)" (2016) "My Favorite Part" - The Divine Feminine (2016) Trivia Mac was the son of Karen Meyers, a photographer, and Mark McCormick, an architect. Ariana's first collaboration with Mac was recorded in 2012 (before The Way was released in 2013). Ariana's last collaboration with Mac was recorded in spring 2018. Ariana and Mac have a lot of unreleased songs they made together, some of them were meant for albums but most of them were just for fun. He was Jewish-American on Karen's side and Irish-American on Mark's side. Miller's song from The Divine Feminine (2016), "Cinderella", is about Grande. Mac Miller's last performance was at The Hotel Café.[17] He is mentioned in "Thank U, Next", which is also partly about him, alongside three of Grande's other exes. Ariana adopted his dog Myron after his death. The producer of Miller's posthumous album, Circles, believes that Grande's vocals are featured (uncredited) on the song "I Can See". Ariana and Mac's unreleased song "Talk To Me" leaked in July 2020. This song was scrapped from Mac's album The Divine Feminine. Another one of those unleaked songs is "Sit It Upon It". Mac and Ariana collaborated on seven songs, "Baby It's Cold Outside", "The Way", "Into You", "Congratulations", "My Favorite Part", "I Can See" and "Talk To Me". Ariana wrote a song titled Remember about Mac after his passing which was supposed to be featured on the Thank U, Next album. However, the song was scrapped prior to the album's release Ariana is believed to have nodded to Mac Miller's song "Crickets" by including cricket chirps after the line "heaven sent you to me" in Positions (song) Off the Table ft. Myron is Ariana Grande's tenth dog. He was originally Mac Miller's dog and was adopted on January 16, 2017.[1] The first time we see Myron would be on January 16, 2017 on Mac's Instagram page.[2] A few days later, Ariana then posted a short boomerang on her Instagram Story of Myron on Mac's birthday. Through various times through 2017, Myron could be seen on both Mac's and Ariana's Instagram pages. On April 24, 2018, Ariana said that Myron had been living with her for a few months and he was "her everything"[3]. Noam Galai/Getty Images for New York Magazine Singer Ariana Grande confirmed her breakup with rapper Mac Miller Thursday. Grande and Miller had been together for two years before calling it quits."This is one of my best friends in the world and favorite people on the planet Malcolm McCormick," Grande, 24, wrote via an Instagram story post. "I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us.""Unconditional love is not selfish. It is wanting the best for that person, even if at the moment, it's not you," she of the former couple's split surfaced Wednesday. At the time, it was rumored that the pair quietly parted ways due to busy schedules, TMZ reported. However, the "No Tears Left To Cry" songstress said she intends to continue providing support for Miller despite their split. "I can't wait to know and support you forever," she wrote. "I'm so proud of you."The pair connected in November 2012. At the time, Miller tweeted Grande about his interest in collaborating with her. Soon after, the duo created Grande's chart-topping first single "The Way" and a cover of "Baby It's Cold Outside." After "The Way" music video debuted in 2013, fans speculated if their bond was more than a business partnership due to the former couple's onscreen chemistry. Their assumptions weren't without merit. For one, they kissed in "The Way" video. Miller and Grande didn't begin dating publicly right away, but paparazzi caught the pair kissing in August 2016. The "Into You" singer confirmed she was dating Miller the following month. While dating, Miler and Grande collaborated on the song "My Favorite Part" in 2016. The track was featured on Miller's fourth studio album The Divine Feminine."We work really well together," Miller told Complex in September 2016. "We had a lot of fun in the studio. And I love...how incredible of a singer she is. Our writing chemistry is amazing. Our song came together so nicely and our voices sound so nice together."The former couple was last spotted together at Madonna's Oscars party in March. She attended the Met Gala without him Monday.

Pete Davidson is picking up the pieces following his breakup from Ariana Grande, but fans aren’t making that easy for him. The Saturday Night Live star has been accused of sending Mac Miller
(CNN)Just one year ago, Ariana Grande was falling in love with comedian Pete Davidson. A few months later, she'd be mourning the loss of her former boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, and dealing with PTSD from a terror attack at her 2017 Manchester concert that killed 22 people and injured the time following the attack and Miller's death, Grande told Vogue in a cover interview: "I was researching healing and PTSD and talking to therapists, and everyone was like, 'You need a routine, a schedule,' ... Of course because I'm an extremist, I'm like, OK, I'll go on tour! But it's hard to sing songs that are about wounds that are so fresh. It's fun, it's pop music, and I'm not trying to make it sound like anything that it's not, but these songs to me really do represent some heavy s**t."Grande shed tears during the interview when she spoke of missing Miller and explained how her performances at Coachella in April helped remind her of him, in a good way. (Miller died of an accidental overdose in September 2018.)"I was always a person who never went to festivals and never went out and had fun like that. But the first time I went was to see Malcolm perform, and it was such an incredible experience," Grande explained. "I went the second year as well, and I associate, heavily ... it was just kind of a mindf**k, processing how much has happened in such a brief period."She says in November 2018, after Miller's death and her breakup with Davidson, she realized she needed help. "I'm a person who's been through a lot and doesn't know what to say about any of it to myself, let alone the world. I see myself onstage as this perfectly polished, great-at-my-job entertainer, and then in situations like this I'm just this little basket-case puddle of figuring it out," she said. "I have to be the luckiest girl in the world, and the unluckiest, for sure. I'm walking this fine line between healing myself and not letting the things that I've gone through be picked at before I'm ready, and also celebrating the beautiful things that have happened in my life and not feeling scared that they'll be taken away from me because trauma tells me that they will be."With Miller, she said his addiction became too heavy to handle. She was constantly consumed with worry and would often track him to make sure he wasn't on a bender. "People don't see any of the real stuff that happens, so they are loud about what they think happened," she said. "They didn't see the years of work and fighting and trying, or the love and exhaustion."Her time with Davidson felt different. "My friends were like, 'Come! We're gonna have a fun summer [in New York.]' And then I met Pete, and it was an amazing distraction. It was frivolous and fun and insane and highly unrealistic, and I loved him, and I didn't know him. I'm like an infant when it comes to real life and this old soul, been-around-the-block-a-million-times artist. I still don't trust myself with the life stuff."
